You may find LED street lights are more and more popular. Why LED street lights replace HPS street lights step by step? Following points are main reason.
1. Color Rendering Index
CRI of HPS street lights are less than 50. Color of object is faith, boring and hypnosis.
CRI of LED street lights are over 80. The color of object is fresh, veritable and comfortable.
2. Color Temperature
Color temperature of HPS street lights is usually less than 3500K. It’s yellow or Amber. It’s uncomfortable.
Color temperature of LED street lights can be 2700-7000K. It looks comfortable.
3. Lifespan
Lifespan of HPS lamps is usually less than 10,000 hours. Lifespan of LED lamps is 50,000 hours.

Today I read white paper from Philips about performance of street lights. The light sources are LED, High Pressure Sodium and Mercury Vapor. The datasheet is as follow:
